![]() So it's been darn near a month since I've posted on here. Let me fill you in on what's kept me away: 1) Kids got the stomach bug. 2) Kids got the respiratory flu. 3) Wife got the stomach bug. 4) I got the respiratory flu. 5) Kids cycled back around and got colds again. Good times. Here is hoping we are done with illnesses for the winter...but I'm not holding my breathe. So onto bigger and better things -- Hockey. The Chicago Blackhawks are back in action and playing some pretty decent hockey to kick off the season thus far, but that is not what this post is about tonight. Instead I want to talk about the above picture. On Sunday, October 26 I was at the United Center for the game against the Ottawa Senators. It was Hockey Fights Cancer Night, so the Blackhawks brought out a bunch of kids fighting cancer with them during the starting line-ups. It was pretty cool. Then one more fan came onto the ice to drop the ceremonial first puck. Gabriel Colon is battling Acute Lymphoid Leukemia and recently participated in a Hawks practice through the Make-A-Wish organization. In addition to that experience, he also got to drop the puck on Sunday. After the face-off between Hawks Captain Jonathan Toews and Ottawa Captain Erik Karlsson, both players leaned in, talked to Gabriel and gave them their hockey sticks. The looks on his face in the photo above tells you all you need to know about how much it meant to him. Class act by not only the Blackhawks and Toews, but also by Karlsson and the Senators.
