It's been too long. I used to come here everyday and write at least a little something, but then life happened. Work, kids, school, meetings, appointments, cooking, cleaning and more all started eating away at my time until I was left with just enough time to shower and sleep...and nothing more. So here I am, ready to write once again and post some thoughts, musings and insights into the world around us. So what is on my mind today? How the hell anyone can drive into the city everyday on the expressway and not want to either kill someone or just drive their car straight into a wall. I was lucky enough to attend a workshop today at a wonderful place called the Newberry Library on Television and American identity. This however required I travel into the city. Now don't get me wrong: I love the city. But driving into it on a weekday during rush hour, that is another thing. Usually I would have taken the train but the timing just didn't work out, so I was forced to drive. What should have been a 30 minute drive was more like 90 minutes this morning. And why you ask? Because a guy was on the side of the road changing his tire...and everyone slowed down to look. To the best of my knowledge, people have changed tires before. And he did not appear to be demonstrating a new and unique method of changing a tire, so for the life of me I could not figure out why everyone needed to see what this man was doing. All I do know is that I was about to go insane if I was on that highway for much longer. And then I remembered that people do this everyday. And then I thanked God I wasn't one of them. There is nothing like a 90 minute, traffic-filled crawl to an appointment to remind you of how sweet a 2.7 mile trek to work is each day.
