Finding things to do with kids during the Chicago winters can be a bit of a challenge. This is one of the many reasons I enjoy Chicago Parent's Going Places magazine. One of the other reasons I enjoy it so much is because they are kind enough to publish my writing every now and then. Pick up your copy around Chicago today and check out my pieces on traveling on the train with your kids and another on some unique theater experiences you and your kids can partake in this winter. Right now the pieces are only in print, but if and when links are available I will post them here. Thanks for reading! For the record: This is truly a great magazine and I highly recommend it, even when I am not published in it!

The information and poem below is taken from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs web page at http://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/flanders.asp
This was the poem written by World War I Colonel John McCrae, a surgeon with Canada's First Brigade Artillery. It expressed McCrae's grief over the "row on row" of graves of soldiers who had died on Flanders' battlefields, located in a region of western Belgium and northern France. The poem presented a striking image of the bright red flowers blooming among the rows of white crosses and became a rallying cry to all who fought in the First World War. I post this this evening in honor of this Veterans Day Thank you to all of those who serve and have served our country. We are all forever grateful for your service. |
