Truly a Golden Age

Back just fifteen or twenty years ago, if you wanted to watch something on television, your options were limited.  If you had cable, you probably had 50 or so channels, and if you didn't, well good luck.  But the programming was still good.

Now 25-30 years ago, your options were really limited.  But the programming was still good.

Today, you've got 200+ channels to choose from on cable.  Over the air, thanks to HD, options have easily tripled.  And thanks to services like Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and more...and companies like Appple, Google and Amazon, now you can stream in virtually anything you want at anytime you'd like.  And the programming is...well, great.

You would think with so many options and so many studios and so many channels to support that television would be at its weakest now.  However that is not the case.  In fact, some people (myself included) are calling this the second Golden Age of Television.  Show right now are strong.  The writing is wonderful and the acting is superb. The multitude of channels and platforms has not weakened or watered down the content, but rather it has provided outlets for hundreds of thousands of creative people to come forward and give us what is certainly the best television of our lifetimes (if not of all of TV's history).

Will it continue to be this strong?  Only time will tell of course, but one thing is for certain:  I am enjoying it immensely.  And if you're not watching at least a couple of different series right now or filling up your DVR with them for later on you are truly missing out on this new Golden Age of Television.

So what shows are your can't miss programs?  Comment below and share what your favorites are and why we should be watching.
