Back just fifteen or twenty years ago, if you wanted to watch something on television, your options were limited. If you had cable, you probably had 50 or so channels, and if you didn't, well good luck. But the programming was still good. Now 25-30 years ago, your options were really limited. But the programming was still good. Today, you've got 200+ channels to choose from on cable. Over the air, thanks to HD, options have easily tripled. And thanks to services like Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and more...and companies like Appple, Google and Amazon, now you can stream in virtually anything you want at anytime you'd like. And the programming is...well, great. You would think with so many options and so many studios and so many channels to support that television would be at its weakest now. However that is not the case. In fact, some people (myself included) are calling this the second Golden Age of Television. Show right now are strong. The writing is wonderful and the acting is superb. The multitude of channels and platforms has not weakened or watered down the content, but rather it has provided outlets for hundreds of thousands of creative people to come forward and give us what is certainly the best television of our lifetimes (if not of all of TV's history). Will it continue to be this strong? Only time will tell of course, but one thing is for certain: I am enjoying it immensely. And if you're not watching at least a couple of different series right now or filling up your DVR with them for later on you are truly missing out on this new Golden Age of Television. So what shows are your can't miss programs? Comment below and share what your favorites are and why we should be watching. While I really want to share some good news here with all of you, it is going to have to wait. It shouldn't be long before I can share with you the details, but know for now that it is something that I've been wanting to accomplish for a while now and it looks like it is finally happening. In other news, May is just around the corner and that means a new edition of Chicago Parent's Going Places will be hitting the newsstand soon (May 18 to be exact). Until then however, if you haven't seen my scanned in copies of the Spring edition of the magazine are online at Chicago Parent's website: John Deere Road Trip - http://www.chicagoparent.com/magazines/going-places/2015-spring/john-deere Hockey Roadtrips - http://www.chicagoparent.com/magazines/going-places/2015-spring/hockey And finally, be sure to tune in this Saturday for Study Hall Radio on AM 1530 WCKG in Chicago. We've got a great show this week...we will sit down with graduating high school seniors who will share with us what they've learned during the past four years (and we are talking about more than math and history, but rather how they've grown). Catch it at 2pm Saturday on AM 1530, online at www.wckg.com or on the WCKG mobile app. ...but instead I am here, online...in the cloud...hanging out online. Even though it is 12:21am. Even though I have the work today. Even though I'm tired. Why? Because the Blackhawks are still playing hockey. The second overtime is about the start. Good Lord willing the Hawks will end it quick and I can go to bed, because as much as I like hockey, I really like it at a more reasonable hour. |
