So it just dawned on me. I never published my Airing of Grievances here. I tossed it up on Facebook but never hit the "post" button on the blog. So without further ado... Happy Feativus everyone! Here they are...the Airing of Grievances: 2015 1) How damn hard is it to take your turn at a four way stop sign. You go, I go. Done. If you're afraid of an intersection maybe you shouldn't be driving a 2,000 pound death machine. 2) Smoke if you want to, I could care less. But don't throw your cigarette butts out of your car window. I don't throw my chocolate wrappers out my window so maybe you can keep the remnants of your vices in your car too. 3) Hey NFL, if you want Tom Brady and the Pats to always win, fine. Can you at least allow creative touchdown celebrations and players to honor their deceased family members without fining them? 4) The left lane is for those of us who know how to drive (me and like seven of my friends), not for you. 5) What's the point of having 18 checkout lanes if there are only 4 people working them (of which 1.5 are competent). 6) Fruit doesn't belong in bakery. I can think of two exceptions. Maybe. 7) I don't watch Star Wars. Most of the world hasn't seen it. Good for you if you like it. I don't. And no I won't feel different after watching with you.

What can I say, it happens. As much as I would love to update this blog each and every day, life happens. As a full-time high school teacher and a full-time Dad, stuff always seem to come up. But finally, I've carved out a few minutes to update the blog. Now here is the problem however -- what the heck do I write about? I could bore you with stories about school, such as parent-teacher conferences or grading lots of papers, but frankly that's something I don't need to relive. I could just share this awesome photo of the family and I visiting with the Stanley Cup, but I feel like I should offer you more since you took some time from you day to visit. Or I guess I could regale you with some fictional tale about why I have been MIA this past month. But instead of any of that, I'll just leave you with this. My plan is to be back more often. Some people run, workout, drink and/or paint to relax. I write. And frankly, I need to plan to relax more. In order to stay fresh and on top of my writing game, every week on my blog I will post a few Weekend Update style set-ups and punch lines. Your feedback is welcomed and encouraged. If you laughed...awesome, let me know about it! If you thought it was the worst thing you've ever read, and that is saying a lot since you're job is to proofread the latest edition of Lighthouses Digest, then let me know that as well!
Again...let me know what you think by commenting below or using the contact page to send me some mail of the electronic variety! Once again, the fine folks of Chicago Parent magazine have been nice enough to publish some of my writings in their Fall 2015 Going Places magazine. In this issue I have pieces about how you can hold onto summer for a few more weeks here in the Fall. I look at a few unique movie houses in Chicago where you can take the family to catch a flick. And finally, we all have been to the museums in Chicago, but did you know there are more than 30 museums to check out? My piece focuses on five places that will teach you specifically about the history and happenings of the Windy City itself. You can check them all out (and more) by visiting by writing page right here. And if you want to cruise over to Chicago Parent's web site you can check out my contributor page there as well at http://www.chicagoparent.com/staff/chris-thomas |
